Description
Shirley Windmill is a 19th-century, five-storey circular brick tower mill located on Upper Shirley Road. Built in 1854, it features four sweeps, a cap, and a fantail. The lower windows of the mill have been blocked, and it is no longer operational. During a restoration in 1927, parts of the machinery were found to date back to an earlier mill, with a date of 1740 identified. The windmill was last restored in the 1960s and is likely the last large windmill constructed in Surrey.
