Description
Sheppard's College is located on London Road in Bromley and was built in 1840 by Mrs. Sheppard to provide accommodation for daughters who had lived with their mothers at Bromley College. The building features a range of five houses designed in the Tudor Gothic style, with the central house set forward as a prominent feature. It is two storeys high with a basement, constructed of white brick and topped with a hipped slate roof.
The central house has a straight-sided triangular gable adorned with a finial, a band, capping, and kneelers. Below the finial is a heraldic shield set within a moulded string course. Each floor of this house features one mullioned and transomed window, with a two-light window on the first floor and a three-light window on the ground floor, both having drip moulding. The projection of the central house includes a simple doorcase with a descriptive tablet above it.
The other houses in the range each have two windows, with two-light mullions on the first floors and two-light mullioned and transomed windows on the ground floors, all framed by quoined surrounds. The end quoins are also present. Each house has a simple doorcase with quoined surrounds, accessed by four steps with iron handrails.
Sheppard's College and Bromley College on High Street form a group.
