Description

LONDON ROAD, BROMLEY 1. 4407 (North East Side) Sheppard's College TQ 46NW 5/39A II GV

  1. Situated in the grounds of Bromley College and built by a Mrs Sheppard in 1840 to provide accommodation for daughters who had lived with their mothers in Bromley College. It consists of a range of 5 houses in Tudor Gothic style, the middle one set forward as a central feature in the composition. 2 storeys and basement white brick with hipped slate roof. The central house has a straight sided triangular gable with finial, band, capping and kneelers. Heraldic shield beneath the finial moulded string course. 1 mullioned and transomed window with drip moulding to each floor, 2 light to the 1st floor and 3 light to the ground floor. Simple doorcase in the projection with descriptive tablet above. The other houses have 2 windows each, 2-light mullions to the 1st floors and 2-light mullioned and transomed windows to the ground floor, all with quoined surrounds. End quoins. Simple doorcases with quoined surrounds approached up 4 steps with iron handrails.
