Description

No. 179 High Street is a building dated 1898, designed by architect Ernest Newton. It is four storeys tall and constructed of red brick, featuring a mansard tiled roof with two large curved dormers that have balconettes. The building has a decorated lead eaves cornice, which includes the date and a rainwater head. The lower floors have two curved bays and a later shopfront. This building is part of a group that includes the Royal Bell Hotel and No. 181.
