Description
The terrace wall, gazebo, and pergola at Sira were designed by Ernest Newton in 1883 as part of the Sitka estate. Located to the southeast and northwest of the main house, the structure features a low red brick terrace wall approximately two feet high, with a brick modillion cornice and tiled coping. This wall has a semi-circular shape at the southeastern end and a straight section extending to the northwest, serving as a retaining wall for a steep slope. To the northwest, the wall rises to about eight feet and includes a square gazebo with a pyramidal tiled roof at the northwestern corner. This section curves to the north and has a straight part to the northeast, which serves as the rear wall of a pergola supported by brick piers, featuring curved wooden tiebeams and a tiled path. This structure is an original garden feature associated with the house designed by Ernest Newton.
