Description

Bullers Wood is a Grade II* listed building located on St Nicholas Lane in Chislehurst. It was remodelled by Ernest Newton in 1889, transforming an existing early Victorian house for the Sanderson family. The building is two storeys high, constructed of red brick with a tiled roof. It features an elaborate moulded eaves cornice with ovulo moulding. The front elevation consists of three bays: one canted bay with three double casements, one rectangular bay with four mullions and transoms on the side and six on the front, and a central pentagonal bay with mullions and transoms. The window dressings are made of stone. The left side of the building is stuccoed and has three round-headed windows on the first floor, along with a small ground floor bay. There is a pair of brick and stone gate piers topped with ball finials. The property includes terraces with cement balustrades and herringbone patterned red brick steps.

The building is particularly notable for its interior, which includes a library that retains its painted ceiling by Morris and Company, along with a sample of the original frieze. There are also elaborate Arts and Crafts fireplaces and a fine plastered ceiling with a flower motif on the ground floor. An original brass chandelier can be found in the hall.
