Description
A pair of artisans’ cottages, built in 1907-1908 as part of the Hampstead Garden Suburb by Barry Parker and Raymond Unwin. The cottages are constructed with painted pebbledash cladding over a brick plinth in Flemish bond, with brick dressings and tile gable kneelers. The roof is tiled with swept eaves and exposed rafter ends. The cottages are two storeys high, with a four-window range. The design is bilaterally symmetrical around a single half dormer with short eaves returns. A pair of three-light casements sits beneath the dormer, while the outer ranges feature eyebrow windows. The ground floor windows are three- and four-light casements. All windows are flat-arched, with casements of the original design, and those on the first floor (except for the eyebrow windows) have weatherings. Round-arched, recessed porches with pebbledash detailing above the plinth provide entry on each return. Axial ridge stacks are present on the party wall, and external peak stacks are on the gable ends. The listing also includes the shared garden wall and gateway with number 136. This forms part of the original artisans’ quarter, encompassing cottages on Hampstead Way, Asmuns Hill, and Temple Fortune Hill.
