Description
A group of artisans' cottages built in 1907-08 as part of the Hampstead Garden Suburb development, designed by Barry Parker and Raymond Unwin. The cottages are constructed of painted pebbledash with tiled roofs, incorporating brick and tile details. The properties comprise three individual houses: Nos. 154, 156 and 158. Nos. 156 and 158 form a rectangular block with a four-window front, while No. 154 is designed as a crosswing with a facing gable, creating a single-window range. The design is in the Vernacular Revival style, incorporating elements of a single-ended hall house. A return range of one window extends from No. 154. Most openings are flat-arched, although a segmental-arched entrance is found at No. 156, recessed within a brick porch built in English bond with tile courses and a half-hipped tile roof, featuring flaring gable kneelers. First-floor windows are mostly half-dormers; those above the first and fourth windows have flat roofs, while others have facing gables covered in tiles. Chimneys are located on the left return, between the second and third windows, and at the party wall with No. 154. Ground-floor windows are accentuated with tile weathermouldings. To the rear of No. 154 is an outshut with a lean-to roof and interrupted windows. The rear elevation of Nos. 156 and 158 features two-span gable-faced dormers.
