Description
The tomb of Susannah Frye, who died in 1739, is located in St Mary's Churchyard in Hendon. It features a chest made of Portland stone, with a Pennant stone slab and a superstructure of statuary marble. The lower part of the tomb is a traditional chest tomb with inset angle balusters. The curved cover has several carved reliefs: a skull and cross-bones on the west end, a smoking lamp on the east end, a heraldic achievement on the south side, and an inscription on the north side. The cover is finished with a gadrooned finial. Susannah was the wife of Charles Frye from Southampton Row in Bloomsbury, and their son Charles, described as "late of Smyrna, merchant," is also mentioned.
