Description
These are a group of artisans' cottages built in 1909 as part of the Hampstead Garden Suburb. They were designed by George Hubbard and Arthur Walter Moore for the Improved Industrial Dwellings Company, in collaboration with Parker and Unwin. The cottages are constructed of painted brick over brick, with brick plinths, and have hipped tile roofs with swept and boxed eaves. They are two storeys high and have a six-window front, with a two-window return outshut on each side. The architectural style is Vernacular Revival. The end units have segmental-arched, recessed porch entrances on their returns, while the central pair of units have round-arched entrance porches. A brick storey band includes weatherings. The elevation is bilaterally symmetrical, with facing gables at each end; the gables are pierced by cross-patterned loft louvres. The windows in the gable ranges are tripartite, while the outer windows are doubled, with narrow doubled sashes flanking the entrances. Axial ridge stacks are present on the party walls, with the central stack being thicker than the flanking ones. The windows are original sash windows. These cottages are part of a larger group, numbers 70-124 Willifield Way, and are roughly symmetrical around a central green.
