Description

The Church of St Augustine is a Grade I listed church located on Kilburn Park Road in the City of Westminster. Built between 1870 and 1877, it was designed by architect John Loughborough Pearson. The church is constructed of red brick with stone dressings and features a slate pitched roof that extends to the eaves. It is designed in the Early Gothic style, comprising a seven-bay nave and a three-bay chancel that are of equal height. The building includes dwarf transepts, double aisles to the nave, and an ambulatory leading to a square east end. A north-west tower is topped with a stone, pinnacled broach spire, and there is a south-west porch. The south chapel has an apsidal shape.

At the west end, there is a rose window set in a large niche, flanked by two large square spired turrets. The church features a tall lancet clerestory and a fléche at the junction of the chancel and nave. Inside, the church boasts a lofty rib-vaulted ceiling supported by clustered piers that create moulded arcade arches, with a gallery situated between the internal buttresses. The east end is adorned with triple lancets, and there is a sculptured stone rood screen. The interior is richly decorated with painted elements, stained glass, and elaborate fittings, making it one of Pearson's finest churches.
