Description
This is a terrace of houses built in 1876 by Austin and Roland Plumbe for the Queen's Park Estate, a development intended for artisans, labourers, and general residents. The terrace, numbered 147 to 167 on the west side of Fifth Avenue, is constructed of yellow brick with red brick detailing and has a Welsh slate roof. It is two storeys high, with each house featuring two bays. The architectural style is Free Gothic. Each house has a gabled porch supported by corbels, containing a pair of entrances with half-glazed doors. A ceramic date plaque is set within the gable of each house, bearing the maker’s stamp of Charles Bastin Union Pottery, Lambeth, on the end house. The windows on the ground floor are paired sashes separated by a colonette and have painted lintels; the upper windows are mainly sashes. A moulded brick eaves course runs along the top of the building. A shop front from the 19th century is located at No. 167, characterised by incised pilasters between plate glass windows. The terrace is an integral part of the main street within the Queen's Park Estate.
