Description
Nos. 8 to 11 are a row of terraced town houses built around 1776 to 1788 as part of the Duke of Manchester's development of Manchester Square on Portman Estate land. They are constructed of brown brick, with No. 9 featuring a stuccoed ground floor and concealed slate roofs. The buildings rise four storeys and include basements, with each house having a three-window wide front.
The square-headed doorways are located to the left and are accessed by short flights of steps leading over areas. Each doorway has a panelled door and a fanlight, framed by wooden architraves with half pilasters and cornices. The windows are recessed sashes, some of which have glazing bars, and are set under flat gauged arches. The second floors feature stucco plat bands and cornices, while the buildings have stone-coped parapets. Additionally, there are cast iron area railings topped with flambé torch or urn finials.
