Description
No. 8 Oxendon Street is a terrace house built around 1673. It was altered for use as a warehouse in 1893, and the front was rebuilt in 1958 in a style that reflects the original period, designed by A.J. Aslan. The building is constructed of brick painted black and has a concealed roof. It stands four storeys tall with a basement and features three windows across the front. To the left, there is an early 18th-century style doorway. The windows are recessed sash with gauged flat arches above them. There are enriched stone plat bands at the ground floor and below the parapet, which has coping. A cornice rainwater head and a reset sundial dated 1679 are also present. The interior of the house retains original features such as panelling and a dog leg turned baluster closed string staircase. This is the only remaining original interior in the Oxendon-Panton-Orange Street area, which was laid out by Colonel Panton after 1664.
