Description
These are a group of three terraced houses, numbers 3 to 6, built around 1830 as part of the Portland Estate development in St John’s Wood. The buildings are of stock brick with stuccoed ground floors, the stucco being channelled at numbers 3 and 4. They have slate roofs and are three storeys high, with two windows on each front.
Number 3 has a shop front dating from the mid-19th century with a bowed front. The other properties have semi-circular arched doorways with panelled doors, decorative knocker roundels, and fanlights. Number 4 and 6 have pilaster jambs supporting an entablature over the doorhead, while number 3 has a simpler design. The upper floors feature recessed sash windows within flat, gauged arches. A plat band runs above the stuccoed ground floor, and the building is finished with a crowning stucco cornice and blocking course. Cast iron “Chinese” pattern balconettes are fitted to the first-floor windows. The buildings are part of a longer terrace that also includes numbers 9 to 23.
