Description

A row of grand houses at 75-89 Lancaster Gate, dating to around 1860. The buildings are constructed of stucco and face Hyde Park. They consist of five main storeys and an attic, with each house originally three windows wide. Numbers 75, 76, and 77 project slightly and feature rusticated quoins. The ground floor has rusticated detailing, and the first-floor windows are flanked by Ionic half columns and blind round heads. The majority of the windows are square-headed, with pilastered surrounds to the ground floor of numbers 80 to 89, and pedimented surrounds with flanking pilasters and first-floor balconies on the first floor. Cornices are present on the second-floor windows, while architraves frame those on the second, third, and fourth floors. The windows are sash windows with plate glass, and some first-floor windows are French casements. Cornice bands delineate the storeys, with a prominent main cornice above the fourth floor. The rear facade is also noteworthy, featuring paired Doric porches.
