Description
Cumberland Lodge, located at Marble Arch, is a park lodge built around 1825 by Decimus Burton. It is constructed from Portland stone ashlar and features a slate roof, showcasing a refined example of severe Greek Revival architecture. The building is one storey high with an attic and has a three-bay front with single bay returns. There is a side entrance, while the main east front includes a central projection adorned with pairs of plain Doric pilasters and fluted attached Doric columns. This supports a central attic storey that features a clock face flanked by pilasters. The flanking windows are recessed glazing bar sashes set within architraves. The cornice and parapet extend around the sides and rear of the building. Cumberland Lodge is part of a series of park lodges designed by Burton, which were created around the same time as his Hyde Park Corner Screen.
