Description

7 Wimpole Street is a terrace house built in 1912-13. It is constructed with a Portland stone façade and has a slate roof. The architectural style is Free Renaissance, incorporating details reminiscent of the 17th century.

The house is four storeys high, with a basement and dormered mansard roof. The left side of the ground floor features a doorway with a moulded, serpentine arched head. To the right is a canted bay window with architraved lights and carved enrichment to the frieze. The entire width of the first floor is occupied by four French windows, framed by Corinthian pilasters which support an elaborate entablature with delicately carved ornament to the frieze. The upper floors have leaded casement windows within panels framed by thin pilasters. The building features an entablature and balustraded parapet. A cast iron balcony spans the first floor, and area railings of a similar style are also present. The overall impression is one of a carefully composed and detailed elevation.
