Description

This is a terrace of houses built around 1880 on Fifth Avenue in Westminster as part of the Queen's Park Estate, developed by Austin and Roland Plumbe for the Artisans, Labourers and General Dwellings Company. The terrace is constructed of yellow brick with red brick dressings and has a Welsh slate roof. It comprises two storeys, with each house featuring two bays. The design is in a Free Gothic style. Corbelled porches with tiled roofs shelter paired entrances, each with a Tudor-arched doorway and half-glazed door. The end houses have entrances to the side returns and tripartite windows to each floor. The windows are mostly paired sashes with a dividing colonette and moulded lintels; upper windows are mainly sashes with margin lights. A moulded eaves cornice runs along the top of the terrace. The second house from each end is distinguished by a three-story tower with a pyramidal roof, containing a round-headed entrance with recessed doors and moulded eaves. The terrace is an important feature of the main street within the Queen’s Park Estate.
