Description
Nos. 22 and 24 Rupert Street are terrace houses built in the late 18th century, with a refacing of late 17th or early 18th century houses. They are constructed of painted brick and have slate roofs. The buildings stand three storeys tall with dormered mansards, each featuring two windows on the front. The ground floors have mid to late 20th century frontages, while the upper floors have recessed sash windows without glazing bars, set under flat gauged arches. The parapet has coping, and there are square-headed dormers with slate-hung cheeks. The rear elevation of No. 22 retains its original gable. Inside, No. 22 features a panelled passage-hall and a first-floor rear room, along with a dog leg closed string staircase that has turned balusters and column newels. No. 24 has a late 18th century dog leg cut string staircase with thin square balusters. These houses are part of the Pulteney Estate, which was developed in the late 17th century.
