Description
This building is a park lodge located opposite Upper Grosvenor Street in Hyde Park, City of Westminster. It was built around 1825 by the architect Decimus Burton and is the surviving lodge of the former Grosvenor Gate. Constructed from Portland stone with a slate roof, the lodge features a severe yet simple design in the miniature Greek Revival style. It has a rectangular plan and is a single storey high. The south face has a single bay, while the north end includes an architraved doorway, and the south end has a blind eared architraved window. The east side is also blind. The lodge is detailed with a plinth, quoin pilasters, a simple cornice, and pediment-gable ends. It is one of several park gate lodges designed by Burton, which were created around the same time as his Hyde Park Corner Screen.
