Description

Nos 19 to 25 Victoria Square is a block of terraced houses built between 1838 and 1839 by Matthew Wyatt. The houses are constructed of stucco, and the roofs are not visible. The corner houses, Nos 22 and 5 Lower Grosvenor Place, feature distinctive corner "pepperpot" turrets topped with lead domes and finials. These houses have Corinthian pilasters that rise through the first and second floors, and similar pilaster treatments are found on the end houses facing the square and on the street leading into the square from the north.

The block consists of three storeys, an attic, and a basement. Each house is two windows wide, except for the turreted corner houses and No 25, which is one tripartite window wide. The doorways and windows have square heads, with sash windows and panelled doors. There is an early Victorian shopfront at No 5 Grosvenor Place. Nos 23 and 24 feature cast iron balconies on the first floor, while No 25 has a stucco balustraded balcony. A cornice is present above the second floor, with a subsidiary cornice at the attic level. The houses also have cast iron area railings. This block is an integral part of a unified layout and matches the block at Nos 13 to 18 Victoria Square.
