Description

Numbers 38 and 39 are a pair of houses dating to around 1830, situated in the City of Westminster. They are constructed of brick, which has been stuccoed, with a concealed roof. The houses are two storeys high, with an attic and basement, and feature three bays, plus a narrower, recessed entrance to the left and a single-storey, one-bay wing to the right.

A central, projecting porch, supported by attached Tuscan columns, provides access through double doors with an overlight and jamb lights. A panelled door with an overlight, set within an architrave under a cornice resting on consoles, provides entry to the left-hand entrance. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars and margin lights, all within architraves. The ground floor central windows are adorned with cornices resting on consoles. The right-hand wing has a sash window within an eared architrave. A sill band runs along the first floor. Angle pilasters and a cornice are present, with a further cornice above the attic and a central pediment on a panelled base flanked by volutes.

The front garden is enclosed by a dwarf wall with patterned railings and incorporates stucco gatepiers with lintels. The building holds group value, contributing to the character of the surrounding area.
