Description
A range of mews buildings dating from approximately 1889 to 1899, designed by Balfour and Turner. The buildings are constructed of red brick and Portland stone, with a plain tile roof. They are in a restrained, carefully detailed style derived from the late 17th century. The buildings are two storeys high with an attic. The ground floor, faced in stone, features an irregular arcade of coach house doors. The first floor has groups of four small casement windows. A prominent mutule cornice and balustrade runs along the top, interrupted by simple brick gables. The chimney stacks are made of brick and capped with stone. Ornamental rainwater heads are paired. This mews range is situated between numbers 3 Aldford Street and 23 South Street and forms part of a larger development associated with Balfour and Turner’s rebuilding of this part of Mayfair for the Grosvenor Estate.
