Description
Nos 4 and 4A Aldford Street is a terraced mews house built around 1898-1899 by Balfour and Turner, with a shop added in 1929. This building is part of the redevelopment of Mayfair for the Grosvenor Estate and is designed similarly to No. 3. It features red brick with Portland stone dressings and a plain tile roof, showcasing restrained Arts and Crafts detailing influenced by late 17th-century domestic architecture.
The house has two storeys, a basement, and a dormered attic beneath a half-hipped roof. The front has two main irregular bays, with the right-hand bay slightly advanced, featuring a cornice-hood doorway and sidelights, along with three closely grouped flush framed glazing bar sashes on the first floor. The set-back portion includes a plain double shop front with a cornice fascia and flush framed glazing bar sashes above. The eaves have a coved cornice, and there are two large gabled casement dormers in the roof. The property is enclosed by cast iron area railings that resemble those of No. 3.
