Description

This is a terrace of houses on Fifth Avenue, built in 1880 by Austin and Roland Plumbe, as part of the Queen’s Park Estate development for artisans, labourers, and general dwellings. The terrace comprises numbers 99 to 113 (odd). The building is constructed of yellow brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with decorative red brick banding and detailing. It has a Welsh slate roof. The terrace is two storeys high, with each house featuring two bays. The architectural style is Free Gothic, characterized by gabled porches supported on corbels. These porches contain paired entrances, each with a half-glazed door and an overlight, set beneath red brick arches. A ceramic date plaque is visible on the porch gable, which also has painted coping. The end houses have entrances set into their return walls. Ground-floor windows are paired sashes, separated by a colonette and topped with painted lintels. Upper-floor windows are mainly sashes, some with sills supported on corbels and painted lintels. A moulded brick eaves course runs along the top of the building, and there is coping to the party walls, as well as corniced stacks. The terrace is an integral part of the main street of the Queen’s Park Estate.
