Description

The bandstand located to the north-west of Queen's Gate in Kensington Gardens is a Grade II listed structure built in 1930, designed by J H Markham, who was the Chief Architect to the Office of Works. This bandstand features a fanciful neo-Regency style made of metal. It stands on a canted pedestal that supports eight slender columns, each topped with simplified capitals and ball feet. The octagonal canopy has a convex sounding board adorned with painted decoration. The roof is tented and made of copper, topped with a polygonal finial. Additionally, there is a decorative parapet with a guilloche frieze and prominent gutter spouts. The bandstand is enclosed by a tubular metal balustrade with tall slender standards positioned between the columns.
