Description
The bandstand, dating from around 1890, is located in Hedge Mead Park. It features a cast iron and lead structure with a rough ashlar base and an octagonal plan. The bandstand has a battered base that extends eastward from a revetment wall running north to south through the gardens. It is supported by eight cast iron cylindrical columns that rise from square bases, each with a ring moulding halfway up and small Ionic capitals below pierced scalloped fans. These columns support a ribbed pavilion roof topped with a ball finial. All sides, except the western side, are adorned with simple railings made of two horizontal bars connected to the columns and central verticals by cube joints. Each side has a vertical rail at the center topped with a ball finial. The bandstand may have been designed by T.B. Silcock, who laid out the park in 1889, but it is more likely that it was purchased from a catalogue.
