Description

Former numbers 14 and 15, now part of number 16, are offices built around 1878, likely designed by William Elsdon. The building features a stone facade on a brick structure, with a rectangular plan that is three bays wide and two rooms deep, rising five storeys beneath a slate roof.

The ground floor has a complete timber shop front with two lights on either side of a central modern door, which now serves as number 16 and provides access to adjacent premises. The shop front includes iron lozenge panes. On the first floor, there is a single central window set under a pediment, while the flanking windows are tripartite, separated by iron columns that have enriched foliate capitals on stone bases. This window arrangement is repeated on the second floor, but with console brackets instead of an order. The third floor features simpler, unadorned windows beneath a projecting eaves cornice, and the attic storey has a simpler cornice above.

Inside, the building retains an original lift in an iron cage located at the center of the stairwell. The ground floor also showcases egg and dart cornices in the principal spaces and the lift lobby.
