Description

A pair of terraced houses, now combined into a single property, were built around 1770 as part of the development of the south side of Hertford Street. The project was overseen by the elder Henry Holland, a builder from Fulham, and his son, in partnership with John Eldridge. The houses are constructed of brown brick with rusticated stucco on the ground floors and have slate roofs. They extend to three storeys and an attic, with basements below. There are eight windows in total: five on number 8 and three on number 9. A former central entrance to number 3 is visible, and there is a semicircular arched doorway with a panelled door and patterned fanlight to the right-hand side of number 9. The windows are recessed, with no glazing bars, and are set beneath flat, gauged arches. The ground floor arches are stuccoed and rusticated; number 8 has mid-19th century stucco architraves to the upper floors. A projecting plat band and moulded stone cornice run across above the second floor. The attic storey has a parapet coping. A cast iron balcony spans the first floor, and cast iron railings are also present.
