Description
Number 24 Hanover Square is a town house built around 1717. It is constructed of brown brick and features a slate roof. The building has four storeys and a basement, with a mansard roof that includes dormers and is three windows wide. The façade is accented by red brick quoin pilasters and a moulded stone cornice with a blocking course. The shallow revealed glazing bar sash windows are topped with red segmental arches and dressings, fluted keystones, and aprons below the sills, which create a vertical emphasis. To the right, there is a wooden doorcase with fluted Corinthian pilasters. Later shop windows have been added. Although the interior was altered in the later 20th century, it still retains a cut string turned baluster staircase. This house is one of the original buildings in the square and is comparable to those that remain on St George Street.
