Description
No. 187 Wardour Street is a terrace house originally built around 1735-43 as part of the redevelopment of this area by Jonathan Frith, a painter. The building underwent repairs and alterations around 1838-39. It is constructed of stock brick and has a slate roof. The house stands three storeys tall with a dormered mansard and features four windows across the front, with a two-window return to Noel Street. The ground floor has a mid to late 19th-century shop front that has been altered, including a fascia on both fronts and a corner entrance. The upper floors have recessed sash windows with later 19th-century glazing, set under flat gauged arches. The parapet has coping, and there are segmental arched dormers. Inside the shop, the layout retains the configuration of two former rooms that have been combined into one, featuring modillion cornices and moulded compartmented ceilings.
