Description
Orsett House is a detached villa built between 1843 and 1848 in the Italianate style by George Ledwell-Taylor. The house is stucco-faced with a leaded mansard roof. It is two storeys high, with an attic mansard and basement, and is arranged with three bays, the central bay being wider and slightly projecting, topped with a segmental pediment containing a thermal window. Rusticated quoins define the corners. The central entrance is within a tripartite columnar porch, featuring waterleaf capitals and a solid balustrade above and leading to a panelled door. The ground floor windows are square-headed and architraved, with cornices. Some windows are metal casements, while others are sash windows with glazing bars. A dentil cornice runs above the first floor, with a smaller cornice below the attic. A two-storey segmental bow window is present on the return. The property is bordered by cast iron area railings.
