Description
27-28 Pall Mall, including 24-25 St James's Square, is a building dating from 1902 that serves as offices and a showroom. It features a channelled Portland stone façade and a slate roof, showcasing Mannerist classicism. The structure has five main storeys plus an attic storey with dormers. It is four windows wide, with the central window bays slightly advanced. The ground and first floors are designed as a lofty podium, highlighted by a wide central semicircular arched opening for the showroom, flanked by narrow semicircular arched doorways and similarly arched windows on the first floor. Above this podium, the upper floors have enriched architraved windows, with the central two bays framed by giant pedestalled pilasters that rise from a second-floor balcony and support an open pediment. There is a fretted cornice band and a balustrade over the outer bays. The attic storey is recessed behind a deep flat-roofed loggia, topped by another attic featuring a semicircular arched central window flanked by dormers in the roof.
