TQ 2980 SW CITY OF WESTMINSTER ST. JAMES'S SQUARE, 82/51 SW1 5.2.70 No. 31A G.V. II Terrace house on corner site. c.1772 with top 2 floors added post 1850. Brown brick, slate roof. 5 storeys and basement. 2 windows wide to former John Street and one blind window return to square. Entrance to left, original panelled door in 1936 pedimented doorcase (by Brian O'Rorke). Recessed glazing bar sashes under flat gauged arches. Deep stone plat band over ground floor and 1st floor sill band, 3rd floor brick sill band. Crowning stone modillion cornice possibly original reset. Return has one blind window centred to each floor. Cast iron area railings. Plain interior with staircase compartment containing open well stair to rear. Survey of London; Vol. XXIX.
