Description
The Park Lane Hotel (Eastern Block) is a hotel built in 1924 by Messrs. Henry Tanner. It features a stone-clad exterior on a steel frame and is notable for its important interior design. The building has seven storeys and a double dormered mansard, with a façade that is five windows wide and a central canopied entrance.
Inside, the significant areas include the Silver Gallery, staircase, Ballroom, and adjoining rooms, all designed in a lavish Art Deco style from the late 1920s. The Ballroom, located in the basement and designed by Higgs and Hill, showcases vertical panelling on the walls adorned with reliefs of winged horses and youths, pink tinted and shaped mirrors, and "fountain" light fittings. It also features three frosted glass chandeliers and a panelled ceiling with palmette-decorated cornices. The Silver Gallery is decorated with silver leaf lacquered in gold on the walls and includes paintings by Miss Gilbert, along with an elaborate brass balustrade on the staircase and original light fittings.
