Description
This is a lodge, dated 1848, designed by R Heskett and built in the Gothic Revival style. Constructed of red brick with stone dressings and grey brick diaperwork, it has a tiled saddleback roof. The north gable displays the legend 'CD 1848' in brick diaper. The front elevation features a three-light mullion-and-transom window, a single-light window, and a porch with a pointed arch and hipped roof that interrupts a blocked eaves cornice. The gable ends have stepped copings, with the north gable topped by an octagonal pedestal supporting a lion sculpture. A central chimney stack supports a group of three octagonal chimneys with over-sailing courses. The lodge forms an integral part of the larger St Clement Danes Almshouses group.
