Description
Millwall Wharf Riverside Range of Warehouses is a Grade II listed building dating from around 1870. This long range of single-storey gabled warehouses was originally bonded and is constructed of stock brick. The structure features pairs of gables, which are divided halfway by fire walls. The gables at the landward end are of equal size, while those facing the river are arranged in ascending scale, culminating in a taller central pair. The gables are topped with brick copings and the roofs are covered with slate.
The yard elevation has buttressed walls, and there is one remaining armoured door set under a segmental arch, while the other openings have been altered and enlarged for vehicular access. On the riverfront, each gabled bay contains a high-set diocletian window, which has a keystone framed by brick pilasters that extend to the level of the crown of the window arch.
Internally, each pair of gables covers two aisles, supported by queen post roof trusses that spring from the outer sides of the brick walls. The valley of the roof is supported by a row of five cast iron columns, each with circular caps, in each half, separated by the lateral fire wall.
