Description
No 2 Wilkes Street is an early 18th-century building made of painted brick. It has three storeys, a basement, and an attic, featuring five windows, with the center window being blank, all set under segmental arches. The windows have flush framed sashes with glazing bars. The entrance is marked by a wooden doorcase that includes flat fluted Doric pilasters, carved brackets, and a fine hood with a panelled soffit. This building is part of a group that includes the Great Synagogue, Nos 1 to 39 (odd) Wilkes Street, Christchurch, and Nos 2 to 20 (even) Fournier Street, as well as No 84 (The Ten Bells Public House) on Commercial Street and Nos 57 and 59 Brick Lane.
