Description
The former west entrance lock to South Dock at the West India Docks was built between 1803 and 1805 by William Jessop. It features ashlar walls that have undergone some repair, with modern concrete doorcases added. Originally constructed as the west entrance lock to the City Canal, it was later incorporated into the West India Dock system. This lock was designed in the same style as the original locks of the West India Docks and is notable for being the only remaining lock chamber from the first generation that has not been filled in, although only the western half of the structure still exists.
