Description
Nelson Dry Dock, including the gate, is a dry dock located on Rotherhithe Street, dating from the early to mid 19th century. The dock has been filled in and now functions as a pond. Originally timber-lined, it has been refaced in concrete, and features an original wrought-iron caisson gate to the river, although this has been altered. The retaining wall includes iron plate ties that were taken from ships, extending to the road end. This structure is associated with either Randell and Brent or Bible and Perry's ownership of Nelson Docks and is recognized as one of the important surviving constructions of Nelson's Dock.
