Description

The properties at 9 to 20 Mornington Grove, E3, are a late 19th-century development. They consist of pairs of houses, with numbers 16 to 20 forming a small terrace. The buildings are constructed of stock brick, characterised by wide bracketed eaves and soffits to hipped slate roofs. Each property is three storeys high with a basement, and features two windows. The central portions of each side are slightly advanced, separated by a shallow brick groove that divides the paired houses. The ground floors have three-light windows with stucco architraves, bracketed sills, and pediments above. The first floors feature a three-light window alongside a single round-headed window. The second floor has a similar arrangement with flat arches above the windows. The doors are arched and have stucco dressings that extend upwards into distinctive keystones, with balustraded steps leading to the entrances. The side facades incorporate blind, full-height recessed brick arches. The properties are part of a group value context with their garden walls and piers, and with the wall at the southern end of Mornington Grove.
