Description
Park lodge next to Roseberry Gate in Dulwich Park was built in 1889 by the Architects' Department of the London County Council. The building features red brick in English bond on the ground floor and mock box-framing on the first floor, with oversailing gables on both wings. The roofs are tiled and adorned with tile cresting, reflecting an Old English style.
The lodge has a two-and-a-half storey "solar" cross wing, with a one-and-a-half storey wing extending at a right angle, creating an L-shaped plan. The entrance is located at the junction of the two wings, sheltered by a two-bay, timber-framed porch with a hipped roof that merges with the roof of the taller wing. To the left, the high wing features a rectangular porch on the ground floor that leads to a jettied first floor, which includes a small canted bay. The gable hamper above is pierced by two round-arched lights. The left return showcases an elaborate chimney breast with a plaque displaying the date, while the stack has been rebuilt to its original design since 1988. Most openings are flat-arched, except for a segmental-arched opening in the chimney breast. The lower wing's return has a canted bay that culminates in a gable hamper oversailing, with the gable featuring a pair of small attic lights. Both gables are decorated with ornamental barge-boards. The interior has not been inspected, and the lodge forms a group with Roseberry Gate.
