Description
This is a late 19th-century gate, dating from approximately 1890, which provides access to Dulwich Park. It comprises five piers defining two carriageways, with pedestrian walkways alongside, and is accompanied by attached railings that extend to the pavement line. The railings terminate in a single pier at each end. Each pier is of identical design, featuring rebated sections and rusticated blocks forming the capital, which is finished with a capstone of scrolls and volutes inspired by French Second Empire architectural styles. The gates themselves are ornamented with cresting. The design of the piers is similar to those found at the Old College Gate on College Road, the Queen Mary Gate on Dulwich Common, and Roseberry Gate on Dulwich Common.
