Description

Pond Cottages comprises three dwellings, originally built in the early 18th century with a later extension to the right. The building is constructed of purple brick with red brick dressings, and has a pantiled roof hidden behind a parapet. The main section of the building is two storeys high and five bays wide. The extension, now number 1, is also two storeys high with one bay. The original front door is framed by timber with shaped consoles, a pulvinated frieze, and a pediment featuring a modillion cornice. Two later doors were added in the 20th century, one replacing a former window to the right of the main door, and the other to the left of a window in the extension. The sash windows of the original house have glazing bars and are set within red brick segmental arches, with red brick dressings and flush frames. The extension's windows are square-headed. A red brick band runs below the parapet and at the first floor level. The interior has not been inspected. The cottages were originally associated with nearby claypits and a brick kiln. Pond Cottages numbers 1-6, along with numbers 9 and 10, form a group.
