Description
The Baptist Chapel, built in 1863 by Bland, is a notable brick structure with a stucco front, featuring a heavy cornice and a blocking course above the frieze. The chapel is two storeys high and has an impressive three-bay façade facing the street, with one-bay brick extensions on either side that are set back. The right extension includes a stucco pedimented porch.
A prominent giant distyle Tuscan portico under a pediment is located at the central bay, with corresponding giant pilasters at the corners and between the bays. The main entrance features a recessed door with a panel above, flanked by lateral scrolled consoles. The ground-floor windows are square-headed and include margin lights, while the first-floor windows are round-headed, adorned with a moulded stucco archivolt that has a key and a band at the spring. A stucco band runs between the floors, and there is a plinth with panels beneath the windows, along with a moulded band at the ground-floor sill level. The interior has not been inspected.
