Description
This is a terrace of seventeen houses located at Numbers 2 to 18 Colnbrook Street, Southwark. The houses were built between 1849 and 1852 by the architectural practice of Garland and Christopher. They are constructed from yellow stock brick with stucco banding to the ground floor and stucco dressings. The roofs are slate, concealed behind a stucco cornice and blocking course, with bracketed details over projecting sections and a partially brick-parapet finish. Some sections have replacement brickwork.
The houses are two storeys, with an attic and basement, and each has two bays. Steps lead to panelled front doors, which retain original fittings and oblong overlights, set within Classical doorcases featuring pilasters and a plain entablature. The ground-floor sash windows have margin lights and are topped with keystones that meet the cornice. First-floor sash windows, with glazing bars, have square-headed stucco architraves topped with cornices, particularly prominent on the projecting bays.
The interior features stick-baluster staircases, panelled doors, and fireplaces. Original wrought-iron area railings are also a notable feature.
