Description
Charlotte Sharman School is a school building constructed between 1884 and 1885 for the School Board for London. It features yellow and red brick with a black brick plinth and has an irregular L-plan layout. The block has a long elevation facing Geraldine Street, situated between West Square and St George's Road.
On the exterior, the two upper storeys are made of yellow brick and are decorated with a blind segmental-arched arcade, with the arches and banding in red brick. The second-floor windows have segmental heads, while the first-floor windows have flat arches. The ground floor is constructed of red brick with banded rustication, featuring rectangular windows topped with segmental pointed arches that include keystones. The south elevation has a five-window range with a projecting corner block and a two-window range to the east. The west elevation, which faces Geraldine Street, has a twelve-window range with two slightly projecting blocks of two-window ranges at either end. The north elevation has a three-window range with blind arches and a projecting corner block with a four-window range at the south end. Most of the windows still have their original glazing bars. The brick parapet surrounding the rooftop playground has rectangular openings, designed to resemble the attic storey of a Classical building. The interior has not been inspected.
