Description
This is a row of four houses located at 42-48 Trafalgar Avenue, built between 1851 and 1852. The houses are constructed of yellow brick with stucco detailing, and feature a basement. They have a low-pitched slate roof, with a pedimented gable end to the street, featuring egg-and-dart moulding supported by paired, heavy console brackets. The houses are arranged in linked pairs, each with three storeys and one main bay, and connected by a two-storey, one-bay recessed entrance link.
The entrance doorway is round-arched, set within a stucco panel decorated with pilasters and an entablature. The frieze features key moulding, and there's a dentil and modillion cornice. A small sash window sits above the doorway, also within a stucco architrave. The ground-floor windows are large four-light sashes with stucco architraves and an entablature with console brackets, with projecting sills and decorative cast-iron guards. The first-floor has tripartite sash windows, with stucco pilasters supporting an entablature and dentil cornice. The second-floor windows are round-arched sashes with stucco architraves and guttae below the sills. The interior has not been inspected. The houses form a group with the Lord Nelson Public House and numbers 16-64 (even) Trafalgar Avenue.
