Description
Numbers 28 and 30 are two houses built around 1843-1845, likely designed by the Brighton architect Amon Henry Wilds. They are constructed of stucco and feature a hipped slate roof with overhanging eaves. Each house has two storeys and a semi-basement, with two bays. Giant fluted Ionic pilasters extend through both the ground and first floors, framing the inner bay of each house and supporting segmental arches above the first-floor windows. The outer entrance bays are slightly recessed, with steps leading up to a square Ionic porch that has a deep entablature and corresponding pilasters flanking the door. The houses have sash windows; the inner bay windows are segmental-headed, while those above the porch are round-headed and set in shallow round-arched recesses. There is a string course above the basement, and the ground-floor windows are adorned with cast-iron decorative grilles. The interior has not been inspected. The houses are part of a row of four identical semi-detached pairs, set back from the street and facing a similar row of nine houses, creating a cohesive group. The properties also feature area railings and rails to the porch.
