Description

This is a terrace of 13 houses built between 1853 and 1856. The houses are made of yellow brick and feature slate mansard roofs with dormers behind a coped parapet. They are two storeys tall, with an attic and basement; houses 30-32 have three bays, while houses 20-29 have two bays. The ground floor has banded stucco rustication. There are steps leading up to square-headed, pedimented doorways with prominent panels in the architraves; the doors are recessed, four-panelled, and have oblong overlights. The sash windows include margin lights, with those on the ground floor featuring stucco cornices and bracketed sills, while the first-floor windows have stucco eared and shouldered architraves. The interior has not been inspected. The terrace is complemented by cast-iron area railings with spearhead standards. Numbers 1-32 Merrick Square form a cohesive group.
